An immersive experience led with Vulnerability, Transparency, & Authenticity.

The Northwoods Songwriters Retreat started as a dream to assemble creatives in one central location who originate from all over the world and all walks of life.

Then Covid happened and the idea was shelved. But at the 2022 TAXI Road Rally, Cheryl, a pillar in the emerging songwriting tribe suggested we resurrect the idea and go for it! 

So founders James and Jill Kocian met with their friends and founders of the immaculate Camp Daniel to partner together for the inagural retreat September 7-10, 2023. 

Industry pros including James, Jim Thacker (Kazen Music), Robbie Hancock (Sync or Swim Music), Jordan Biel (Innovate Records), & Matt Vaner Boegh (25,000+ sync placements) worked together with 50 attendees from all of the USA, Canada, and New Zealand to move together forward. 

Each attendee prepared something to share with the large group and each person offered incredible insights into their lives using inspiration in both triumph and tragedy. 

Songwriting for real sync opportunities custom created for the NWSW group -  including 3 movies and an international publisher, live song pitches (from songs written that weekend), songs written with an artist at the retreat, and song opportunities to write for an artist encompassed a busy schedule.

Attendees also enjoyed a free French Macaron class, free massages, a free movie, campfire, and so much more!

At the core of the NWSW retreat, we believe we are all on a journey that is meant to be traveled together. We find hope and encouragement in helping one another in our growth, and understand the importance of first banding together, then moving forward.
